Ellen Stang, MDFounder, President and CEODr. Ellen Stang is a board certified pediatrician and in 2003, founded ProgenyHealth® to address the need for improved care management and health outcomes for premature and medically complex newborns. Today, ProgenyHealth works with NICUs in all fifty states and is a recognized leader in deploying evidence-based neonatal care management services.
Prior to founding ProgenyHealth, Dr. Stang served as a Regional Medical Director at Keystone Mercy Health Plan, where she developed and implemented a successful neonatal management program that was used as a model for their affiliated health plans. Before entering managed care, she enjoyed many years in private practice and was one of the founding partners of Bucks County Pediatrics, a practice of the University of Pennsylvania Health System. While in private practice, she was Co-Director of the newborn nursery for the newly established maternity wing at the Bucks County Campus of the Medical College of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Stang is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She attended Dickinson College for her undergraduate studies and received her medical degree from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. Dr. Stang completed her residency at Saint Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia.
Dr. Stang has received many awards and recognitions for her work and most recently was named the 2013 Gold Winner for Female Entrepreneur of the Year at the 10th Annual International Stevie Awards for Women in Business. In 2012 Dr. Stang was recognized as one of Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneurial Winning WomenTM.
Bob Cox, MBAChief Operating OfficerAs the Chief Operating Officer of ProgenyHealth, Bob Cox, brings to his role a diversified background that includes 25 years of senior management experience turning early stage healthcare companies into market leaders.
Prior to joining ProgenyHealth, Bob was Senior Vice President of Sales and Client Relations for Halfpenny Technologies where he helped facilitate their first capital raise and was instrumental in doubling the revenue of the company. Bob started his career with E.I. DuPont and served in a variety of progressively challenging roles in medical sales, customer service, and planning, both domestically and internationally. He has held executive management positions with Foster Medical, NovaCare, Inc., and Advanta Corp.
Bob earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Economics from Lehigh University and a Master of Business Administration in Finance from The University of Chicago.
Recently, Bob was awarded SmartCEO’s Executive Management Award. This award recognizes the leadership and accomplishments of Philadelphia’s management all-stars leading the region’s business community. Bob was recognized for his creative management vision, leadership philosophy, innovative strategy, and undeniable work ethic.
Steven Richardson, MD, MSChief Medical OfficerDr. Steven Richardson, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at ProgenyHealth, oversees our clinical operation and is responsible for the improvement of the medical services we provide to our client’s most fragile members.
Prior to joining ProgenyHealth, Dr. Richardson was the Medical Director for Quality Health Ideas, Inc. (QHI), a medical management company which owns and runs Physicians Accountable Care Services, one of the nation’s largest accountable care organizations. He came to QHI after serving as Vice President of Data Analytics for Verisk Health, an international data management and predictive modeling company. Previous to Verisk Health, he was a National Medical Director working with Managed Care clients for Genomic Health, Inc. and served in a similar role as National Medical Director for GlaxoSmithKline. Dr. Richardson has over fourteen years of experience working in multiple payer organizations including, Aetna, Prudential, and United Healthcare where he held various positions including Medical Director and CMO.
Dr. Richardson attended the University of Kansas for his undergraduate studies and received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in Preventive Medicine and earned a Master of Science degree at the Ohio State University College of Medicine. Prior to earning board certification in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine, he practiced as a primary care physician for over five years.
Dan Smolczynski, CPA, MBAChief Financial Officer Dan Smolczynski serves as the Chief Financial Officer at ProgenyHealth. He is responsible for all financial aspects of the company’s operations, including the strategic financial leadership and daily finance functions. Additionally, he manages Progeny’s relationships with financial institutions, public accounting partners, and other external parties.Dan is an experienced finance and business leader, who focuses on clarity, business economics and fundamental financial and accounting leadership.
Prior to joining ProgenyHealth, Dan held several roles in the healthcare sector. He recently was a healthcare-focused professional in Ernst & Young’s Transaction Advisory practice. Prior to that, Dan held several leadership roles of increasing responsibility in the Managed Care industry at AmeriHealth New Jersey where he held a divisional financial leadership role, and Cigna Corporation, where he held several roles including Regional Pricing leader, Divisional Controller and other core finance roles. He also has experience in Life and Disability benefits as well as in Capital Markets.Dan began his career as an auditor at Arthur Andersen. He is a certified public accountant in the state of Pennsylvania, received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Philadelphia University and received his MBA from Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business.
Dan FeruckChief Revenue Officer As the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) for ProgenyHealth, Dan is responsible for managing the Sales/Business Development and Marketing Department. This includes developing sales strategy, defining new markets, building and implementing a comprehensive marketing plan, setting effective pricing methodologies, and creating the team and appropriate incentives to rapidly expand the Progeny footprint.Dan has held senior leadership positions in the managed care industry over the past twenty-five years. He has a proven track record in turning around underperforming organizations, leading teams to achieve peak performance, and building collaborative long term working relationships.
Prior to working at ProgenyHealth, Dan spent ten years with Humana serving as Commercial Business Health Plan President for Georgia, Florida, and Alabama. In this capacity, he was widely recognized for spearheading consistent double-digit growth in both membership and revenue. Dan also spent twelve years at Aetna, where he served in various sales and segment leadership roles. Mr. Feruck received his BS in Business Management & Psychology from Juniata College. Very active in the community, he has served on the following non-profit boards in the Atlanta market: American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society, and First Tee Atlanta.
Edie Primavera, RN, MBAVice President, Health Services In her role as Vice President of Health Services, Edie is responsible for the oversight and accountability for all aspects of the medical management program, process, and outcomes. This includes managing the Utilization Management (UM) and Case Management (CM) teams.
Edie has more than twenty-five years of experience in the managed care sector, primarily in government-sponsored Medicare and Medicaid. She has successfully led teams to execute quality initiatives to support HEDIS and NCQA requirements and has developed innovative care management programs to support the Special Needs Plans for dually enrolled and chronic care populations. Prior to joining ProgenyHealth, Edie was a Senior Vice President of Clinical Services at Evergreen Health, where she was responsible for the clinical oversight for delegated utilization management and case management activities along with Quality and Credentialing. Under her leadership, Evergreen Health was successful in attaining an Interim Accreditation status with NCQA as a Qualified Health Plan and is preparing for its First Survey in the fall of 2015.
Edie earned a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Alfred University and a Master of Business Administration from St. Joseph’s University Haub School of Business.
Debbie Sweeney, RN, MSN, MBAVice President of Quality and ComplianceIn her role as Vice President of Quality and Compliance, Debbie is responsible for the oversight and accountability for all aspects of the quality management and corporate compliance programs. This includes ensuring that ProgenyHealth complies with federal and state laws, accreditation standards, and client specific requirements. In addition, Debbie coordinates all new business implementations.
Debbie has more than twenty-five years of experience in the managed care sector, including commercial and government-sponsored programs. She has successfully led teams to execute quality initiatives to support HEDIS and NCQA requirements and has lead two organizations through successful NCQA surveys. Additionally, Debbie has worked collaboratively with hospitals to implement innovative programs to reduce readmissions and ensure appropriate utilization of clinical resources.
Prior to joining ProgenyHealth, Debbie was the Director of Clinical Health Services for CoventryCares of Virginia, where she was responsible for the clinical oversight for utilization and case management activities and served as plan lead for the migration to the Aetna Medicaid policies, procedures, processes, and platforms.
Debbie earned her Associate, Bachelor, and Master of Nursing degrees from Gwynedd Mercy University and a Master of Business Administration from Widener University.
Gina Arnold, MBA, SPHR, SHRM-SCPVice President of Human Resources and Support ServicesAs Vice President of Human Resources and Support Services, Gina Arnold oversees the development and implementation of comprehensive human resource functions including: policies and procedures, training, compensation, employee development, recruiting strategy, employee retention, benefits and employee relations.
Gina brings over 20 years of wide-ranging HR experience to her role. She has worked with business leaders to improve and maintain a variety of HR strategies in the banking and pharmaceutical industries and has worked with many small businesses.
Gina attended the University of Delaware for her undergraduate studies where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She went on to earn her Masters of Business Administration from Drexel University.

Gina was recognized for her collaborative and creative leadership and her ability to enhance and support ProgenyHealth’s mission.
Andrew Meyer, MD, MBA, FAAPLead Medical DirectorIn his role as Lead Medical Director, Dr. Andrew Meyer supervises clinical care nurses performing utilization reviews of infants in the NICU. Additionally, he oversees case management nurses that coordinate the care of infants during their inpatient stay and after they are discharged from the hospital. Dr. Meyer has over 10 years’ of experience as a Neonatologist.
Prior to joining ProgenyHealth, he was an attending Neonatologist at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Pennsylvania where he was the Associate Medical Director for a busy 40 bed Level III NICU. Dr. Meyer received his medical degree from Drexel College of Medicine. He completed his pediatric residency at the A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children and his fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Additionally, Dr. Meyer recently earned his Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
